Friday MICKnugget- A Bite of Reality

Are we so into politics that everything must have political overtones? I believe sometimes we are. Can we even stop looking for the political angle in anything we see? I get it. Bill, you’re a political commentator, isn’t this what you do? Well, sort of.
But while politics seems to touch everything, not everything is rooted in politics. We started Friday with this weekend’s NFL games in Paris. It’s not the brightest idea given the state of France at the moment, but they’re there and Roger Goodell even pulled Marco Rubio into the discussion. Marco should have stayed out of it. Can you imagine a better target for a terrorist act?
Then, rival teams got together for a high school football game in Oregon. One player leveled an opponent as he was carrying the American flag onto the field before the game. There was outrage and the offender was ejected from the contest, but no explanation for the act. Was it anti-American or was it just emotional, immature kids doing what they do in a heated rivalry? I’ll vote for the latter, but there are some implications it could be a racial thing.
We then hit Ilhan Omar’s string of lies and subversive behavior. It will be interesting to see how that one plays out.
Our day concluded with Republican messaging in this campaign season. I am seeing more commentators living where I have been for some time. Republicans miss the message and just may not be who they claim to be when running for office. We are nearly devoid of leaders and have more than our share of unethical players. The machine supports them and wants us to accept their mediocrity. It’s time we stand up and demand solid behavior from these politicians by picking better ones. If we don’t have standards, we’ll get the government we deserve…like we have been.
The weekend’s upon us. I have high school football tonight, college and NFL wait patiently for Saturday and Sunday. As it all begins, I have no idea where Monday’s show will take us, but rest assured we’ll have a direction to follow come 7am Monday morning. Enjoy your weekend. I’ll keep my eyes open for items of interest and we’ll get together then. You know we’ll have a good time then…I think I have heard that before.
